They Did Not Know We Were Seeds
Screenprint on fabric with metallic polumer, wood, hojas, paint, dirt | 5ft x 4ft x 2ft | 2022
As part os a Chican@ Futurist themed show, Project MASA 5, “They Did Not Know We Were Seeds” tells a creation story. The imagery shows a beam of light from the heavens bestowing ancient energy and knowledge onto the seeds that have long been buried by the original people. This golden light awakens the stored souls that were placed in the ground until the re-emergence was ready to take place. This creation story has been framed as a treasured artifact as it still transmits energy. Mounted on a strip of fabric, the void of spacetime, and painted in the blackest black, BLK 3.0, it absorbs 99% of visible light. The print itself is radiating creation energy full of our ancestor’s spirit in the form of bronze metallic orbs. Within the orbs, you can see images of calaveras, seeds, babies and plants, designed in the papel picado style. The orbs change size as they are traveling toward the viewer from the print through spacetime. In its entirety, “They Did Not Know We Were Seeds”, shows our ancestral knowledge being reborn into present time which is then projected through spacetime to germinate and grow in distant lands.
